    That’s a shame tone

I handled one recently in an RFD and thought it looks really decent and fit was superb (for me) but am yet to actually fire one.

My biggest concern is the trigger as being so used to the rekord and cd for the last 3 decades it’s really annoying when you have to compare crap triggers.

Actual firing manners don’t bother me so much nowadays especially with twang, grounch, rattle and roll that can mostly be sorted but it’s always the trigger bugbear. Just wish other manufacturers would spend that little extra on a very decent trigger heck I’m not after match grade just something that’s predictable and very nice to use.

Yep, I know where you're coming from, as most know, I'm a very big BSA fan and hate it that they haven't kept up with the Herman's, I had a shot of a new Meteor Super a while back, hoping it was going to be the turning point for BSA but was disappointed when it rattled my fillings out, so I'm hoping the CLX has improved a bit more, I picked up an early Lightning XL at one of the bashes and after a tinker, it's bloody lovely for a budget springer, the trigger is decent as well, far better than the Cometa 400, I also had at the time, I just want to try a CLX to make my mind up, once and for all.

Think I’m in the same boat Pete,

Modern springers now are so meh the only thing in the current climate that has my interest seems to be the Lightning CLX which I also want to try first.

I’m so bored with the usual Weihrauchs and AA aren’t much better either churning out the same shizzle probably like yourself been around the houses multiple times with many other brands too.

I really wanted to like the CLX.

I will put the original trigger blade back in and you can try it with the tinbum kit in.

I won't subject you to the original setup.

Best modification would to be to fit a 95 action in the CLX stock.

Ironically I’ve got a nice HW95K but am considering hoofing it for a CLX

I know, I know…..probably need my bumps felt

Just fancy something different to play with the 95 does not interest me one bit

I had a go with Neil’s CLX, it looked lovely with the nicely figured walnut stock and handled great.
The trigger was predictable but there was some resonance from the spring on fireing, but it was nice and quick.
A mate at my club as got one and his trigger and firing cycle was better than Neil’s gun,the stock isn’t as nice as Neil’s. Would I have one No,not at the price they are selling them for.

Would you buy one used though Les?

I’m thinking when they are sub £300 maybe worth a punt

You can try my LGV Neil, see if you like that instead.

See where I'm going with this

    I don’t think so, I didn’t like it enough .
But it would be good value at that price point, especially with a nice walnut stock.

That's the thing. The Supersports and Lightnings have always handled superbly well. They have the feel and balance of a true "sporting / field" rifle. So pointable (although that's not really required for deliberate and precise shooting) and feel superb for standers. But, for me, it's what happens when you squeeze the trigger that counts the most and the sturdiness / precision of components and quality of build. The stock on Neil's looks absolutely beautiful. The bluing looked pants - very budget. And those tales of woe really would put me off.

At the price they're asking for these - a good deal more than a 99 and approaching 95 territory - I really don't think they're good value.

Sorry to sound so damning.....personally I feel that the quality and feel of the stock is light years ahead of the action. It doesn't deserve such a lovely stock. They should do plain beech only and the price point should be circa £150.

Or go back to the drawing board and give BSA fans and hopers a rifle of the quality that this fine and historic brand merits.

The springers don't dictate such a rapidly changing selection as offered by the PCPs and might seem stagnant. But why fix what ain't broke? I genuinely feel that the HWs offer such an excellent proposition as regards performance and quality vs price.

There's not much more I'd need a springer to do than what they can do now. Although I'd still love to see a nice, slick modern-day quality sidelever that is easy & safe to load whilst delivering genuine accuracy.
