Recently acquired a Quackenbush Model 4 Ball Repeater.
Serial Number is 1566
I believe its a .21 Caliber?
I just got the Book on them by John Groenewold!
Someone said it was made in 1900, and that info is in the book, but I.ve not found it yet!
All ive done so far is give it a wipe down with some oil, and marveled at it..
It does cock and fire, but there is about 1" of slack in the barrel slide before it engaged the spring, so maybe it was left cocked, and the spring is set...
Would love some more info, and advice... and where I can get ammo for it etc?

A very nice buy, all info on page 109 in Johns book, quite a rare rifle.
Thanks.
She seems to be complete, and in reasonable shape.
I’m working my way thru the book and cannot seem to locate a way to date it.
Page 109, doesn’t tell me a lot…
Sounds like it’s a 3rd version by the serial number, but I’ve not found anywhere that describes the date it was made, or even a clue.
Lovely pics of a rare rifle. Thanks.![]()

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.
It can’t be dated exactly from the information in the book.
However, table 13 (page 192) has the sales figures for the later years of production and Groenewold estimates the total production of that model was around 1800. If you start from 1800 and subtract as you go up the table you will end up at 1901 for serial number 1566.
You are welcome, for the pics Gavin...
New to all this and photographing guns is tricky!
Anyone want more of specifics, just ask!
I'm still kinda reeling from my stroke of luck finding this, and feel honored to own it.
Very clever DrGunn!
Thanks..
Any thoughts on the "Play" on the barrel would be welcome.
Thanks for posting another Quackenbush thread, all the Quackenbush model airguns are such wonderful additions to anyone's collection. I am reading Groenewold's "Quackenbush Guns" and a boxed model #1 is coming up for auction this weekend, so wish me luck.
An odd turn of events is that I started airgun collecting focused on concentric British & German air pistols, like the Avoke, Warrior, Thunderbolt Jr, Tell 1 & 2, and Phoenix Arms Hy-score. My Hy-score hobby lead me back to eariler US made
air pistols.
I really enjoy this website b/c collectors discuss details about collectible airguns. I want to learn more about my hobby.
Anyone have any insight into the label on the stock?
Auction?
