    HW77 spring search

    Hi all

    I've recently picked up an early 1985 MK1 HW77.

There is a fixed welded in spring guide which is 13.4mm diameter so very narrow.

I have a titan which fits perfectly but is way too short and stiff. It's a #7 I think.

I need a softer longer spring with 13.4mm ID

    Any ideas folks?

    Thanks
    Matty

13.4mm ID? I've never seen one of Nick's with that ID

    Protek Supplies

I've not used this particular spring from Protek, but I've been impressed with their other offerings:

A bit off the main topic but: welded in spring guide? I assume this is an aftermarket fixing? I have never seen one like it if it is original spec. I have a 1985 (I think) MK2 that had the 'metal tube splayed ends in a cross' spring guide when I bought it in, I think, 1985 from AGC.
    Cheers, Phil

I think this is a bit of Venom stage one customising. Sadly I am incapable of putting photos up on here

I’d cut it off or turn it down either way fit a delrin guide to fit your choice of spring. one to fit the piston.

I have searched for 13,6-13,8mm ID springs fro the HW95 for a while, and ended up finding out that the Titan #8 has and ID of about 13,4mm:

Are you sure it's not screwed in? Granny/eggs but a sleeve over the guide works very well.

I have a Mk1 HW80 that ive restored, it shot very well, very quiet no twang etc

I got an ARC glided piston, spring & Guides so I finally opened it up the other week and the standard metal guide had been wrapped in electrical tape

Looks like it’s been in for years, actually worked quite well

If making up new guides, for me, it would have been a toss-up between the WW Dagda or the TbT springs. However, if sticking with that present guide, it's most certainly worth giving that Protek one a try.
