    Which silencer? Advice please

People may notice that I have been thinking of silencers recently. I have an HFT500 fitted with a standard HW silencer, and it is quite effective but rather long at 190mm. I am thinking of replacing it with a shorter silencer about 130 - 140mm with a tapered shoulder to let the filler cap unscrew. The HW unit has a female fitting so this would be preferred on the new one.
    What would you recommend?
    Cheers, Phil

I am not convinced that the HW silencer has been bettered, especially at the price point.
As far as i know this has not changed for the last 20 years.
If i had to pick another that fitted your needs, it would be the Daystate carbon.

Thanks for the suggestion Bob but from the looks of it the Daystate carbon unit is a bit long at 152mm and does not have a really tapered end. It thus may not allow the filler cap to unscrew.

To get sound reduction you need internal expansion volume, because that's one of the basics of how they work.
To go shorter you will need more diameter to get the same internal volume for the same sound reduction.
Small mods are less effective than larger mods, fact.

I think, over the years, I've had guns with just about every type/make of silencer going till I recently bought a Regal that came with an A-TEC, upon first firing the gun I thought it was faulty or out of air but no - these things reduce the noise to a gentle "plop" and IMO every bit as good, if not better, than the HW offerings.

You could look at the A&M titch at 115mm long and 38mm wide, i haven't used one myself but A&M make good silencers. I have their marksman, and is excellent.

    I agree, I have a Marksman and it's superb.

    I've also got an A&M I think it's a 'twink' (170 x 38mm) especially made for my FAC Rapid,
nowhere near as good as a bog std HW, in fact I consider it pretty poor.

Once again, thanks for suggestions. I check each one out. The Titch is recommended for a shrouded barrel and does not appear to work as well without the shroud so I do not think it would suit. Not sure of the Twink but it does not appear to be top class.

Maybe I should just persevere with my HW one.

Phil, I used an hft5 for BR and used silencers, after so many test sessions and different silencers we ( myself and another guy with an hft5) found for the best accuracy the original AA silencer and adapter could not be beat, we used well over a dozen different silencers and both ended up in the same place.

Might not look bling but just couldn’t be beat for accuracy

    Chris
If it ain’t broke, fix it till it is

Thank you Chris. Dare I ask which AA silencer you used as I note that AA seem to do several and it is not clear which one is recommended for the HFT500. I assume it was a male end as the AA adaptor has a female end.
Was it one of their Q tec models? if so, which, please.

    Cheers, Phil

The quietest slincer I have is a members made item.
Other than that the standard hw takes some beating.

I don't know if he's a member on here but I have several Ian "Bl4de" Newman mods, one of which I routinely use on an S400 and was specifically designed for it.
I also use one of his Baby Fat Boys on an S400 with a grub screw/UNF adapter, which is about as short a mod as available that's worth using. It sometimes attracts some curious looks because it is a bulbous thing on the end of the smooth lines but I don't care. I want something that quietens a full length S400 but minimises how much fuller the length is.
