I was lucky enough to see one of Rory Gallagher's last performances at St Albans Civic Centre
    Another much missed venue
Excellent stuff and you'll always have those special memories, Pete.

Remember the Tommy Vance Friday Night Rock Show? That was superb. And he'd often feature many of the up and coming bands that we managed to see live at smaller venues. They once did an album featuring a good few of these bands. Talking around 1979/1980.

They most definitely were good. But lots more bands impressed also, Pere.

The very first band I saw live (other than my brother's band, Fugitive) was White Spirit. They were the support act to Girl. Both good, but White Spirit went on to climb to slightly higher levels and stayed successful for a while. Memories, memories......

Oh yes, and rock chicks in leather jackets and tight, sprayed-on jeans.

Tommy Vance ? Blimey that was another world in another time ! Taping stuff off the radio, sometimes bands you'd never heard of & would never hear of again, great times !

Didn't have many bands playing in Leeds where I grew up, shitest place in the country for live music (no venues). Did manage to see Saxon, Whitesnake, Ozzy, Motorhead & UFO though. Also saw Hawkwind several times around the country. And Roy Harper

Didn't get to the range at the weekend, again

Oh yes, indeed.......I well remember recording various tunes on my ITT "Studio Recorder" which had been a gift from mum and dad for passing my 'O' levels......I could plug it in to their Grundig stereo system to record stuff so that you didn't get any background noise etc.

Yep. Remember. Saw Whitesnake and UFO too. Even Robert Plant when he went solo, but hadn't seen Zep.....We were actually so lucky back then that the owner of our one and only and very small little nightclub in this one-horse town had the vision to get so many excellent rock bands playing there. And we had "The Bailey Brothers" doing the rock DJ duties before, between and after the live acts. They were legends themselves, from the Sheffield area. I think the nightclub also had a few punk and new wave bands on, too, but they weren't for me.

Sorry to hear you failed to get to the range at the weekend, Paul. Always nice to get some things checked / dialled in prior to a Bash. No pre-Bash plinkies for me too, I'm afraid. At the eye clinic today and you-know-where tomorrow and then no more days off until Saturday Bash Day, but we should be okay. I think. It would have been nice to have tweaked the zero on the red dot on the 2240 mini-carbine, but it may have to do. We'll see if any plinky time can be shoehorned in.....

One of my best musical experiences was a gig at The Horn of Plenty in St Albans
60 people and Bernie Marsden (original Whitesnake lead guitar) He was such a nice genuine guy and a friend of a friend so I got to say hi. He was sat in the pub eating a burger and having a pint with everyone else. No heirs and graces but his rendition of Here I Go Again was stunning

There was two great open air concerts in 1969, one at Max Yasgur's place, up state NY and the other featuring McGloskeys Apocalypse at Weston Park, Sheffield.

Fortunately I chose the best to visit....... The Apocalypse were fantastic !!

At the hospital now. I got here well early.

Just sat in the cafe with my very expensive coffee. As I'll be walking back through Doncaster town centre to get to the train station, I think it'd be rude to not nip in to one of the many pubs en route for a swift (and cheaper!) beer.

I hope things go well for you TonyL.

I thought you were going to say it would be rude not to have a go at the range.

I am utterly disgusted at the prices for luke warm dish water masquerading as tea.
