All royal mail need to do is increase the size limit on RMSD and give a clear guide line of how items need to to be wrapped.

It may cost £25-35 to send a rifle but for the piece of mind, I think it would be worth it.

There have been a couple of rifles on here where they have stated no postage no offers.

Then gone on to sell it posted less than my offer with postage.

The biggest issue is in fact insurance.

The RMSD is 500 std iirc but can be increased.

It is ABSOLUTELY legal to post. I do not believe RMSD excludes air rifles BUT your biggest issue is packet max dims and mark the package NOT BY AIR.

Breaking the action down - out of stock mod off, bottle empty may accommodate this etc.

It is also entirely up to the seller to decide if he posts or not and any other conditions of sale they might wish to add.

As frustrating as it may be, thats the deal.

Just as bad is posting pictures on AGBBS is such a PITA.

OR sales don't edit the first post when an item is sold and its a long thread...

    There's plenty to frustrate

    Can't be a••ed

I tend to think people who put 'no postage' just can't be a••ed - in my experience this means they can't be a••ed more generally which usually includes looking after their kit as it's just TOO much trouble - best to avoid. Caveat emptor.

Except in sales they just attach direct from the computer as part of the thread,
even in other sections it's simple & takes seconds with "postimages.org"

The ones who are very keen to post are the ones to avoid.
There is usually a reason why they don't want you to see the goods.

    Caveat emptor.

It's fine to have an opinion, but be prepared to have it challenged. This is absolute nonsense.

All the more reason pictures should be required in sales posts.
It might also be because they live in a more remote location,
when you live in the middle of the country most places are reasonably close.

I disagree with the above comment as I have recently sold two pistols in great condition via post.
Good deals done with: Aimstraight, mulletman6, GwyneddATC, evo97k, Hotwired, Ryan hw99s & Clipper.

Thats absolute bollocks and makes no sense. If you go to collect it you will see the gun. If they post it you only have pictures to go on so your reply makea no sense at all.

But they aren't there for the benefit of gun owners we probably make up such an infinitely small % of their business it doesn't register,
It's all the other c**p they'd have to carry .

Plus, remember they only carry guns because they were told they have to at privatisation, by whoever the regulator was, as they are the only carrier for the general public.

They offer a service regardless of what you are posting, a size increase on the RMSD service is all that is needed and with that increase in size, more business will be created and more profit made.

All they need to do is train their post office staff to all handle with care, which is what they should be doing anyways.

If a item is packaged well it's only how it's handled that is an issue.

Now who's going to ask RM to increase their RMSD sizes, for if enough people ask RM might consider it.

RM really have no interest in serving the airgun community, it is only the fact that they were forced to provide some sort of service at privatisation.

Some sellers want an absolutely trouble-free sale where both parties are perfectly clear abt the deal and no arguments can follow. That's face to face.

    That's me.

When I buy (very few times) I go and look.

When I sell (very few times) I advertise and accept a lower price than could be had if I took the risk of shipping.

Not even a remotely reasonable person could ever be inconvenienced or annoyed by the application of those two policies.
