    Theoben/Whiscombe match-up?

I seem to remember reading on this wondrous BBS that Whiscombe was thinking of taking a well earnt retirement.

Perhaps he could be persuaded to sell his patents to Theoben whom could create a gas RAM version of his opposed piston designs....

    Now *that* would be cool....
I think and therefore...... I refuse to steal someone else's quote to try to sound more erudite or profound than I actually am.

I think Theoben actually made a prototype rifle with opposing gas rams once. I have no idea what it was like or who has it now but I bet someone will!

Does JW have patents of his own or is his design based on the Giss patent?

My understanding is that Theoben do actually own patent(s) for opposing gas rams for use in air rifles to make them recoilless. They don't consider it economically viable at the moment and that is why they haven't marketed it.
In fairness, the rise and rise of the pcp has tended to make this development of engineering and historical interest only.

Really nick?,never knew that,I thought the twin-piston recoiless system was developed by JW.
I am not surprised that Theoben are the reserchers and developer's in alot of rifles now days, they were way ahead then alot of manufactures in the early 80's and even a few years back with fac reged rifles with great shot count.
The gas-ram is still the sweetest springer to shoot imo.

Although I think a lot more people are intrested in moving away from PCP if only to enjoy shooting somthing different, I'm certainly going to use my JW50 instead of my protarget, However its still going to be cheaper to make a PCP than a springer with a similar level of performance,

    Yep!

The Theoben "Contra-piston" recoilless air weapon system, known as "Project 100".

It was a twin gas-ram design, using a balance pipe to equilize the pressure between rams, central compression (like the Park RH rifles).

I have a copy of the original drawings and specs infront of me.

How on earth did you manage to get hold of the blueprints?

There is a thread on here where Bengarzy talks about it and who actually owns it now...

John one before toyed with the idea of retiring, this is the last 60 to be made, but continued on manufacturing. I hope John does not pack up shop he's been in the business of airgun making and shooting for as far back as I remember and will be a loss. However once in the blood it is extreemly difficult to put down; after all with your life focused on airgunning what is left. A big hole? Herx77
