Scope - minimum focussing distance?

I've just got a new scope (pilad 8x56L) and am having problems.

I have adjusted the focussing ring so that the reticles are sharp, but anything less than (approx.) 50 feet away is blurred! And if I turn the focussing ring so stuff is in focus, the reticles disappear.

Is this normal? I know this scope is designed for firearms as opposed to air rifles.

Any advice gratefully received.

...i.e., a focussing ring at the FRONT end as well as at the eyepiece, then I'm afraid it's entirely normal.

You really need an AO scope for airgun ranges.

However, as a compromise, you can sometimes re-parallax a firearm scope. Check out the writeup on the Total Pestcontrol site.

I agree with Steve. Send it back and have it reparallaxed to airgun ranges. A good supplier / importer will do this for you. I've just sent back a Hakko 3-12 x 56 night-tech to Deben for the self-same thing.

But if I had an adjustable parallax ring at the front I could tune this problem out?

The last time I had a scope was about twenty years ago, and I just used to look through it and shoot at the target!

Yes Jolly, you would be better off with a p/a adjustable scope then you could focus from between 10 yds to 300 easily by turning the ring.

So if I had parallax adjustment, would I have to constantly turn the parallax ring to focus on targets at different ranges? Or can you set it so everything is clear between say 5 ft and 25 ft, and adjust the ring again for stuff between 25 ft and 50 ft etc?

Sorry to ask all these questions but I haven't used a modern scope before.
