new HW85 vs new HW95 - any differences?

are the internals on these guns exactly the same? If yes has it always been the case or did the earlier 85s have different internals?

Iirc the old 85's have a screw off back block and a slimmer stock (basically an 80 in a lighter stock)

The new 85's are just 95's I think.

I thought they stopped making the HW85 some years back. Mine is a 1991 and against my HW80 almost looks weedy

The current production HW85 differs only from the 95 in that it has a longer barrel and open sights in all other respects mechanically it is identical. It has nothing much in common with the 'real' HW85 now long out of production, but allows Weihrauch to pretend they have another model in their range.

did the 'old' 85 have a different piston size to the 95?

    Think they are both 26mm?

    Cue Bigtoe and T20........

I've only seen the newer HW85 on the HW site and not sure if it is imported into the UK. Looking on the site, it looks nigh on identical to the 95, subject to barrel length, as above (I haven't checked that).

The old 85, as stated above, had a screw in end block. It also sported a BSF-style scope ramp. Back in the day, I saw quite a few references to this causing an issue. The rear top of the piston was cut away and the sharp edges there caused galling issues on the cylinder.

I must back that up with the statement that I have never inspected one of these at close quarters, and that these rumours may indeed be unfounded, but I seem to remember seeing numerous mentions as to this little issue.

Its been a couple of years since I had a mates 'original' 85 in bits, but I'm 99% sure the piston is the same size as the hw80. As tony pointed out it has a slot to compensate for the scope rail lugs.

    Hi matey,
Nah, the 80 runs a 30mm piston, the same diameter as a 35.
    Early 85 25 or 26mm, but think it's 26.
T20 has just acquired an early one for his next project, so all eyes peeled on that one......

Yeah you're right, just googled it. 26mm. I'd lost 4mm somewhere over the years

The old type 85 also looks like it had a scope rail,
