No reason the SS head won't work as it does in an 80, but I'd rather stroke be altered by the latch rod length (if I were going down that route).
Having said that, I've managed to get 80's running sweet on the standard stroke, especially in .177. I think the extra preload needed for .177 more than speeds up the lazy cycle of the heavy piston
