Target card weight.

Does anyone know the gsm rating of the average card target?Thinking of making some,ordinary paper tends to tear quite easily.

98 gsm . this is the weight of the ones i use at home though, and not the ones used at the club for comp..

I think the fibre length is more important than the GSM.

"Perfect" holes are formed much better in a short fibred stock board, than a standard one.

Sourcing a short fibre board, at a reasonable price, is the difficult part.

We use existing commercial targets for all our club competitions to gain the benefit from those that done the work and solved all the target card related problems for us already.

Likewise with the MPL and CCL competitions - even though it would be nice sometimes to have our own custom targets.

We are low on our standard ISSF targets at the moment and have bought in some slightly cheaper one to see us through until the new stock arrives. There is a noticeable drop off in clean hole punching ability on there as you move down from air rifle to full power pistol and then lower power pistol. Bisley practice pellets at 2 1/2 fpe tend to roll their way through the target rather than cutting holes.

There was a discussion about paper to use for targets recently and a search led to this old thread.

I have fish and chips most Mondays and the outer wrapper always goes onto my A3 roller guillotine. I jot on it print on it take morse down onto it pack with it....

And.... I use it for targets - printed or just felt pen dots. I'd expect it be short fibre as the pulp it's made from probably couldn't be used for much else. I get round holes through chip paper even with dome pellets. If I use copier paper I get a torn hole with wadcutter flat-heads.

I bet if I asked they give me some sheets. Support your local chippy and don't chuck the stuff away!

I hadn't realised this thread was in Target/competition. Maybe my suggestion would be better in General Airgun...

Kruger supply targets to ISSF specification and are used in Dorset and SPA postal competitions.

Been using these for a while, BR cards are great and my only issue has been with the 6ftlb wads at 25yds as they can pull a hole rather than punch it, but for intended use 6ftlb at 10 & 15, along with 12ftlb at 20 & 25 they are great with 300gsm
