A couple of interesting auction items coming-up soon.
Firstly, an Improved Mod D which has a peep sight fitted and is described as possibly coming with it's original pine case.

Secondly, a rather worn looking (apparently ex Webley collection) Mk2 Service, but in the much rarer .25 calibre.

Haven't seen a Mk2 Service in .25 sell for a while, so it will be interesting to see how it gets on.
PS Just checked my 2006 Webley Airgun Museum Collection auction catalogue which doesn't seem to include any reference to this particular rifle.

Brian

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.
Danny, you are a cynic!
Probably right though
I'd like to see a picture of the case at some point, as I'm sure we all would.

After the holts webley pistols I am not even going to hazard a guess what anything will go for anymore in online auctions.......
I'm not sure what "brass loop brass loop carrying handle" means, although I suppose it could have been added later.
Here are original BSA pine cases:

If anyone visits Mitchells (47 Station Road, Cockermouth, Cumbria CA13 9PZ) before the auction on 10th October, could they please photograph the box?
I would expect an original box to add at least a couple of hundred pounds to the value.

eye-candy
LIKE !!!!!!!!
Seems like the auction house is shooting itself in the foot by not offering photo;s of the lots. In this day and age it is difficult to see why you wouldn't provide pictures
Wonder what the referenced three gun trademark stamps to the stock on the improved Mod D signify. Presumably one will be BSA and a second will be the retailer, but what might the third stamp represent ?

I'm no expert, but the box doesn't look at all right to me.

I tend to agree Brian. Partitions are wrong and there is no BSA RIFLE stencilled in the inside lid. Not every rifle had this stencilling mind but its omission alongside the partitions suggest a modification or copy. It still looks like a nice cased set though and I'd love to shoot it with the aperture sight up!
John
Thanks Brian. I would agree with you and John that it's probably not an original case. I'd want some provenance, like an original sales receipt, before I'd believe it was genuine. It may be, but you'd need proof to be convinced of it. Even if the partition was in the right place and it was stencilled, it wouldn't be definite it was genuine.
Here's a pic of my repro Juvenile case by Mac Evans.
