    1920 made air rifle?

    My Nan passed away before Xmas and left some cash to my old man, who in turn gave me some.

    He asked that I buy something for myself so I'm thinking of an air rifle but it must have a manufacture date of 1920 same year as my Nan was born.

    It's going to get pride of place in my new out building come gun room/entertaining room.

    Question for you lads in the know is;

    What would I be looking for and how much should I be paying.

    Thank you

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

    What a lovely gesture. A BSA Standard No 1 within a 'very' approximate serial number range of L1000 to L6000. Or a BSA Standard No 2 within a serial number range of S1 to S3500.

    Mark Knibbs at the Countrystore in Shustoke will be able to confirm exactly when a rifle left the BSA factory through the original factory ledgers, if you are lucky enough to be offered a suitable rifle. I have L300, which was assembled in 1919 and once owned S17 - the latter would have been ideal for you.

    Good luck with your quest.

    Here are links to a couple of guns that fit perfectly into the 1920 date of manufacture

    As John says, the two hole trigger block is the thing to look for, Any three hole trigger blocks were made after 1920

    Good luck in your search

    Now you have me slavering over those two beauties Lakey!

    It would be difficult to date other makes as accurately as the BSA. As to price, a usable rifle can be found for around £150 with the Lyman sighted example linked by Lakey fetching between 2 or 3 times that amount. The hardest thing is finding an example like the Lyman sighted BSA offered for sale.
