Someone makes upper wooden hand guards to fit on the Haenel 49a, looks quite good, although doesn’t extend the stock length.

Might be converted Mauser hand guards, people sell job lots of those quite cheaply.

Bet it’s easy to adapt one for the 275, or make one from scratch.

The same dealer also supplies upper handguards for the BAM 'AK' lookalike.

The colour match is good but hinge attachment is a bit Heath Robinson. I'm not sure I would want to attach these to a Haenel if the method is the same.

I couldn't find another post about the 33 senior on here when I was researching it so thought I should put something up for future reference.

On that topic.... for future reference here's the sketch Vic made with meaurements he took from an original Haenel 33 senior magazine.
The top of the cutout slot is 38.84mm from the flat top of the magazine, much lower than all the other Haenel mags.

I cut and filed mine down to 39.16mm from the top of the mag and it fit's in fine, so there is a bit of wiggle room.
What you dont want to do is file it too high then the bb release tab on the top of the mag might not be depressed enough to release a bb.

A brief overview for everyone interested.
The magazines were available as 12's and 8's for Mod. 33 Senior (the 8'er is reworked for 33 Junior), as 8's and 6's for Mod. 33 Junior. After 45 it was sold 12, 8, 6's by Haenel and Anschütz, the size of the notch is the same for all.

I’ve not seen one for sale but then I never really looked.
I just adapted an existing one as above.

Check egun regularly if you really want one, they might come up.

Curious as to others with a Haenel 33 Senior. Mine shoots very accurately but at the lowest rear sight position shoots 3 inches high on a target 20 feet away. I assume these were made to shoot a lot further and the drop was built in? All my other trainers can be adjusted to hit at that distance.

This setting will give my 33 a poi 1 inch high at 10yds (30ft) or bang on at 6yds (18ft)

I have fully serviced mine so I’m happy it’s behaving as it should.
I doubt these were intended for much longer distances, maybe max 20yds?
I’ve shot mine at 35yds and the group is all over the place.

Looks fine to me, same as mine.
What is that slot cut out of the faux cleaning rod? very unusual.
Look down the side of the rifle and check the barrel is not tilting up in comparison to the cylinder?

Front sight has been replaced? See the collar? Yours doesn’t have that. Base of mine is shorter? Mine is a pretty early one maybe it changed? Saw an earlier serial number in the Gallery - does seem to be not standard front sight?

Quite possible, although the sight ramp looks a similar shape. Serif you can find any other example pics with the collar

Sorry I'm still confused over compatability of Post war to pre war mags.
Will a post war 8 shot be convertable to the pre war 33 senior or is the 12 the only one with enough depth to cut a new slot?
There is no clear guidance anywhere.

Hi Jerry,
an 8 shot mag is ideal, as that’s what the original 33 Senior mags were. A 12 shot will also work, although it’ll stick out of the bottom. A 6 shot is too small to fit a 33 Senior.
When I wrote the above post I only had a 12 shot mag but I’ve since adapted a couple of 8 shot mags as well and they work fine.
