All of the above.
The hotel/motel side is entirely down to the owners, they might allow it they might not, it's their private establishment.
And remember without permission it's technically "Armed Trespass" if they get snarky about it.
Personally, I don't leave them in the car overnight or at any time for lengthy periods.
In the situation you describe I would consult the owner/manager or whatever of the establishment you are staying in and make it plain that your guns are sub 12 ft lb if that be the case, I assume it is in this instance although it may be that the understanding of that maybe obscure to the recipient.
I have just done exactly this at the recent Spring Gun Bash in Nottinghamshire this past weekend without any worries and on many occasions in the past.
The tricky bit of course is transporting the gun slip in and out the premises discreetly but you have to manage that operation at the time. I usually keep anything "cammo-ed", slips or clothing concealed if possible to avoid unnecessary alarm.
This operation is easier in remote rural locations but harder in urban areas such as Premier Inns and Travel Lodges.
Basically, just be honest, if they say No then at least you'll know where you stand !

Travelling I have heavy duty cables affixed to a solid component in the car that cannot easily be defeated. I then pass this thru the rifle bolt or mag well if live fire or as best one can if air. Some air can be difficult to properly secure. I have a seperate portable safe for ammo/bolts/pellets and mags.
I do NOT leave them in the car. Weapons are unlikely to be the reason its broken into or stolen but it just makes it more difficult to explain esp if you hold FAC .
That said, sometimes finding a solid anchor point in the room can also be tricky as well. I will separate bolt mags ammo from the bang sticks.
I have acquired a GPS tracker to conceal in the gun case but not used as yet.
Important for air rifles - do not have loaded mags. Must be empty.
You must follow the most secure/reasonable options open to you.
Hotels may well have T&Cs that may cover anything Inc. firearms Inc. air rifle sub 12 or FAC just like trains and buses etc.

That's adding a whole new dimension to it and asking for trouble/disappointment.
Give someone (uneducated, hysterical Joe Public|) an excuse to flap and say "Oooh no, I don't think that's a good idea" and they will.
If he's not breaking any laws, then he's better off just keeping shtum and doing what most have advised. In my opinion of course.![]()

I never had any problems keeping my air rifle in Premier Inn or Travel Lodge rooms when I used to shoot HFT.
Quick squint at premier in T&Cs - this is the first thing I found that could be appropriate

I have regularly told staff at both the Hinckley and Melton Mowbray that the (up to) 4 rifle bags contained legal sub 12 air rifles
None have then have batted an eyelid except for my last visit when the receptionist wished she could join us as she hadn't been shooting for ages

I travel alone
I regularly stay in hotels when game shooting and always take in my shotgun, never been asked or had anyone comment (apart from when I am wearing my shooting suit next morning)
All i do is disable the gun (by taking forend off after firing both barrels on snap caps), then leave the forend in my car and take the gun in. You can lock the gun via a cable to something immovable in the room such as a radiator or even the handles on the bath or shower.
Just be sensible and you shouldn't have any issues.
I have stayed in hotels here and the US with full bore pistols and shotguns. We did a police competition in Canterbury all had them in the hotel and some carried them with them when we went to eat.
