Took my son shooting for the first time today.

    Hi all,

After many years of not having much contact with my son, I finally have him back, so today I took him shooting for the first time, we visited my local range and settled in, he started off with my Supersports and ended up shooting the arse off my LGV, I am that impressed with his shooting that I've said the LGV is his (but I will look after it for him), considering he has learning difficulties, he picked up the basics really well, I had to explain using mildots to him but he got it in the end.

I'm hoping to bring him to a Bash in the future.

I don't think I'll let him use my Prosport

Good to see you have reconnected with your son.
And that you both enjoy shooting and spending time together.
It will be great to see the both of you at a future Bash.👍

Great to hear you've spent some quality time together making memories. Priceless in my opinion.
My son and I had a free day a couple of weeks back, he shot his first group at thirty metres ( the 'group' is now framed in the workshop ).

Put on heading 270, assume attack formation

Thank you everyone, he's 24 now, divorces can be horrible and the distance that was between us, meant I hardly ever saw him, he's also a massive computer gamer, so I was surprised when he said he wanted to try some of my guns but I'm pleased he did, I saw three levels of elation, the first when he first fired the gun and a smile appeared, then when he hit something and a grin and high fives and then when he hit five knock down "running boar" in a row, one after the other at thirty yards had him jumping up and hugs , I was well impressed and proud.

    Sounds wonderful, Craigy.

I'll have a look in on the phone later so I can view his framed "artwork" as this ageing iPad isn't letting me.

What a wonderful picture you paint, Pete. And what a fantastic session!

I wish I could get some of mine properly interested.

My eighteen year old lad also has issues, being on the spectrum. He doesn't really "do" people and takes solace mainly in his games and his wonderful Caesar dogdog. He's getting slightly better but not much.

He actually has three of his own guns - two of the Umarex Colt SAA pistols and Umarex Cowboy rifle. Although these were bought mainly as props for a media project. He's used the pistols a couple of times and the rifle just the once. He has also had a brief try of some of my boingers from time to time. From day one he shot well as he listens. He's a natural. Which makes it such a shame that he hasn't bitten the bug and shown any real interest.

I'd love for him to come to a Bash. But wouldn't want to push him. I feel it has to come from him as it would be a long day if he got there and didn't enjoy it. Even though we all know he'd love it once there. I just keep "softly" mentioning it hoping that he'll bite one day........

I know what you mean Tone, Matt has special needs and is also on the spectrum (so am I according to Karen), I know he will love a Bash, I've now got the battle of getting him away from his mental girlfriend for good, work in progress with that one, but hopefully it can be done, anyway I digress, I don't think there's many kids who have a top quality Nick G tuned German rifle as a first gun

Yep, good luck with everything for the future, Pete.

And, yes, what a special, special rifle to have as your very first gun. A great gun out of the box, fettled to perfection by one of the masters.

Indeed so Tone, I was comparing it yesterday to my Supersports (I know unfair and silly comparisons), obviously the LGV was easier to cock and much more forgiving to shoot, I've gone past the stage now of trying to put pellet on pellet with paper targets as you become obsessed with accuracy and don't enjoy the actual shooting, so it's just point and shoot and see what you hit with all the different targets, much more fun, the Supersports are tack drivers but still put a smile on my face, especially big Bertha the .25

He absolutely loves it, mate - and as he's a lefty, he won't be able to pinch my rifles when he's bigger. And at the same time, I can buy something ambi for him and use it myself
