Used to do them many years ago without a compressor. Wouldn't want to try tackling one without these days. Yes, the S'Sport set-up is like the Meteor. Just a bit beefier.....approx 28mm vs 25mm. Many use a"tool" made from a dowel.

It would be very interesting to try a shorter, stiffer spring in these, mainly for ease of fitting with the much reduced preload.

With the large piston diameter and high compression of the short transfer port, preload is probably needed to reduce bounce?

Yes, of course, some level of preload will always be desirable / required. But a nice-to-manage amount by hand would be nice, and should be achievable whilst still retaining pleasant manners? Maybe juggling piston weights might help also?

i had a ml 1 brum supersport i picked up for £60 compete with brown boot polished stock refinish that was a bit hot when i chronoed it, took it apart & found 2 pound coins in the piston as weights, after removal it shot beutifully , miles better than any of the bloody lightnings i messed with after i sold it.

Yep, I had to keep trimming the (standard) spring on my early .22 Supersport to get it safely under. At all power levels - well over, over, too close for comfort and safely under, it shot very nicely.
