Yes Pauly. Vision the same as you can't have an eye test done until at least 4 weeks after the op. Can't drive so commuting by chuff chuff for the time being.

So, yesterday was the first commute by train for me.....ever!

I was quite apprehensive finding my way around the stations / platforms / reading screens etc., but need not have worried. Everything was easy, although I have to get closer to the information screens etc in order to be able to read them. The only slight negative was the "down time" whilst waiting for a connection at a bloody cold Sheffield in the evening. Note.....take proper, warmer gear!

But it was actually really nice not having to contend with queues and (the odd) brainless morons on the road. More expensive than the 42 miles round trip when I can drive myself, but saves money over car journey currently when the wife's tried to take and collect me (doubling up on the miles), and saving on wear and tear. Arrival times not perfect, but work will just have to be okay with that......I'd gladly switch them dodgy eyesight and vision problems anytime! Senior Rail Card saves me 1/3.

Could always see if theres someone you work with who lives nearby that can bring you in, had to do it for a while when the car had tantrums (whoever made the claim of German reliability never met an old BMW M car), been years since I used a train myself as Public transport is a bit difficult for me now.

I've nothing to add really. I just felt the need to post something.

Anyway....... Due to the lack of bashes in the near future I have signed up to the Dragon rally. A motorcycle event held in North Wales sometime in February. This is going to be a bit of a challenge as my little 125 doesn't really like going over 50mph and (more importantly) I get scared at anything over 40mph.

Don't worry, you'll be spending an eternity doing 20. Can any Welsh clarify whether 40 mph zones have been dropped to 20?

When we lived there, the part outside Llanrwst was 40, they can't have cut the 40 zones can they.

To be honest the 20mph limits I have seen in North Wales don't actually seem to be implemented much differently to the 20mph limits here in Bolton. Mainly the smaller side streets, but in Wales many of those side streets are actually popular routes through the village.

The small side roads are exactly the kind that should be 20.

Normally Rally routes tend to be planned so they are fun but not overly fast so all skill levels can keep up, any comp side tends to be an average speed rather than how fast you can get point to point.

Good on ya Steve, go for it. Speed isn’t necessary at all at the Dragon Rally, its just turn up and enjoy yourself as you please. Your biggest issue will be the weather if it’s very cold. A good mate of mine has done it many times in the past and recalls having a slash by a bush but it was so windy it all came back on him, his tent collapsed with the weight of snow on it previously too.
I would join you mate but being a smoker, I’m afraid the flame on my lighter might freeze !

    Enjoy

Car sharing would be the ideal and would save both parties money but, unfortunately, no-one at work lives remotely in my direction....Sorry to hear of your difficulties using / accessing public transport.

It'll be fine, Steve. A nice little bike adds character and a bit of a challenge to a journey. Conditions are likely to not be great anyway, so a very expensive, higher powered beast is often a liability. Enjoy.
