    Spring guide sleeve experiment.

Yes a sleeve for the guide.
I've disembowelled a Superstar which I brought to the bash and was such a horrible twanger that I had to put it away.

Here is a query especially but not exclusively for tuners/ engineers.
I am experimenting with using beer can for a sleeve wrapped around the factory guide and wonder if any one has tried it before because I can see some problems developing.

It already has a factory piston sleeve and the spring is as straight as a die. There is enough slop inside the spring for the aluminum to sit very nicely on the guide. At the other end one of Tin bum's top hats has turned down perfectly by hand.
    Lovely. Thanks Nick.
I wondered whether I could get the aluminium to such a tight tube with out forming ridges but it has. The big question is whether the sleeve will ride off the guide once it starts being used.

I am contemplating securing the sleeve with Loctite 271 or finding a way to make a shoulder and clamp it behind a thrust washer.
So far I have tried compressing the spring by hand to see if it catches. I can get two coils over it without that happening.

    Any thoughts everyone?

The more I think I know, the more I realise the less I know.
