Mmmm......if the springs seemed to have lost their springiness, time to replace. You could just de-gunk it with a good degreaser and small brush, let it dry, oil with a very light machine oil and then see if it feels significantly better? If it does, great. If not, it'll be strip down time. I've not ever had to do one personally, but it looks easy enough. As you've said, there will be plenty of on-line tutorials (the Shooting at dawn one seems very good).

Protek have spares in for the trigger units, methinks.

Getting the little spring for the single sided safety catch might be tricky - I think some have managed to get away with using biro springs in the past?

Did there seem to be sufficient clearance between wood and trigger?

Protek have all the sears & springs, these sears all have steps on them & the springs are very tired, so I'll get the lot & rebuild it, won't harm to have spares seeing as I've a few Weihrauchs.

I've heard of people using biro springs for the safety, I'll do that

Haven't checked the clearance yet but there were no marks on the stock.

I'm going to check the barrel / breech with feeler gauges, kinda odd that someone would shorten a drooping barrel

That would be good, first Saturday in April (the 5th) would be ideal as the clocks will have changed. I'm thinking; book the last two sessions, half as many lanes as attendees (because everyone spends half the time chatting), & personally I wouldn't bother with stopping over as it would drastically cut the cost & be a lot easier with the wife etc

It would be quite a bit warmer too.

I feel a new thread coming on

Now THAT I wouldn't be able to do.

As many of you know, I work in retail. Saturdays and Sundays are normal working days for us and, indeed, are our busiest times. We struggle to book time off at weekends. I was able to book the day off for this one and for upcoming Bash events as we had the dates for the events months ago and the Manager at work was able to build these into this year's rota seamlessly.

If you plan such an event and there are enough takers, I'll more than happily help out with any planning etc., and will help keeping the thread bumped along to keep it prominent. Zeb likes a good bouncy BOING!

I'm up for the odd weekday session, though. Even if it was a handful or so of us picking a date and booking lanes individually. I received my February rota on Sunday - it looks like I'll be having Mondays and Tuesdays off instead of my usual Tuesdays / Wednesdays. I'm not sure if that'll be a regular or temporary thing. The range is closed on a Tuesday.

As said, any help needed getting it off the ground / boinging the thread; no problem.

And I do think going for the two later sessions and half the number of lanes as CONFIRMED attendees is the way to go.

Taking something like a tenner non refundable deposit might focus people a little

Brian was extremely accommodating and we all worked it out he lost quite a bit of money with the no shows.

His business model was a bit of a surprise when I booked the Friday afternoon and not taking the money with the booking.

For next time to really focus the mind I think the full amount should be paid and if you don't turn up the session has been paid for.

When this goes live organise it with Brian and then give people a cut-off date to pay by such that a firm number of lanes can then be booked in time. As an indication right now Saturday 1st Feb only 4 lanes for lunchtime slot left and 4 for the afternoon slot.

I've got the last week in March off, I wonder if anyone else could do Monday the 24 th ?

That's exactly what we were thinking, it's not much to lose under the circumstances if you have to back out.

I agree Andy, Tony & I discussed doing it more like Neil does with the bash where folk pay up front. I think we'd have to get some members interested & committed to a date & then either email or ring Brian to book further in advance than you can with the online booking form.

I think if we booked one lane per two people going it would only be 15 quid for the whole 11.45 until 5.30 , which is more than enough time IMHO

Re my 35, I've ordered new trigger bits from Protek & the canted mount has arrived already from Scott

The gap between the top of the barrel & the cylinder tube is 6 thou, it's 12 on my 95, so the barrel was made like that

Also noticed that the rear of the cocking slot in the piston is very worn / distorted, & probably accounts for the cocking issue as the lever has to go a couple of mm further to locate the piston latch rod onto the trigger.

This rifle has to be sorted as I've put too much work into the stock & it has such a nice cycle.

Great to hear that the mount is with you already, Paul. Hopefully that'll address the droops.

Obviously, I can't see the piston. Doesn't sound brilliant. However, on those failed attempts to cock, it was almost more like the piston was coming to an abrupt halt - like a sear stuck in the cocked position, I thought. Certainly worth considering, though. But, hopefully, all will be good once the trigger unit is sorted.

Ah, just thinking......unless the piston slot damage is causing that particular issue and the halted travel is coming from the fat part of the cocking lever getting stuck on the front stock bridge? Although, if it was that you'd think it might not cock at any attempt?

I'll swap the sears out, & take a bit of wood out of the end of the slot in the stock for the cocking lever so it can travel further. If that doesn't fix it I'm proper stumped !

As a quick check, Paul......whip the Rekord out of your 95 and try it in the 35. If that does the trick, job done, sorted!

If you were still to encounter the non-cocking issue, it could be a few things.....yes, that damage on the piston slot not allowing the lever to push it far enough rearwards, or it could be that, in combination with this, the cocking lever is slightly bent. You can get new ones quite easily....I think I paid about £22 / £23 last year for mine from Bagnall and Kirkwood. I think Knibbs have them, too.

A request for help on the forum should net you a replacement piston. I wonder if yours is the earlier type (with a leather to synthetic adaptor fitted) or if it has been replaced with the later type for the synthetic seal which is lighter and gives more stroke?

I think it has a new cocking lever.

The 97 has to come apart so I'll get the rekord out of that, I was going to use it to copy where the bits go when I rebuild the 35's trigger anyway. I suppose I might as well whip the piston out in any case just so I know what seal etc its got.

Great that it has the new cocking lever already, Paul.

I forgot you had the 97 too (I sorta remembered you had another HW, but couldn't quite remember which one). So, yes, stick that one in and see what happens.

I only had a few shots with the 35 and you'll have a far better idea of how many times the issue has reared its head. On those occasions where it cocked, it appeared to do so to me smoothly and without hindrance or obstruction, so fingers crossed that it's just the trigger issue. And quickly answered if you try it with the 97's trigger. Hope it works as that will be problem nice and easily diagnosed and a cheap fix. As you're happy with the rifle's shooting manners, personally I wouldn't bother stripping it to investigate piston etc if the trigger does the trick.
