    BSA Stamper drunk?

Did the Roll Stamper go to the pub on Friday lunchtime 1/4 turn too far on the cylinder

That's interesting. And a beautiful example.

I have a very rare 1910 Light pattern that wasn't roll stamped at all other than the serial number. The top of the receiver is (apparently) engraved at the factory with BSA etc and a carriage company in New York City

I don't know what order the various parts of these BSAs were completed in, but it may be the guy who mated the breech blocks to the cylinder who was at fault not the roll stamper? I had a Haenel mod V Junior repeater once that had the roll stamping a shade off when you shouldered the rifle and I think it must have had something to do with the cylinder/breech block union thread.

Is that the original blueing Peter? The letter and number stamping seems about as crisp as can be although the loading tap plate screws look a bit suspiciously touched up!

    Almost certainly re-blued.

Ok it might be a bit out of kilter but just go at it with some 600 wet & dry to take the lettering off & problem solved. Or maybe not.

That's a nice rifle, lettering askew or not, reblued & refinished its still a very nice example. And it's got a box! If I could change the font colour to green I think I would have.

The merry man fitted one of those rare AAF rearsights too, making it really special..
