TBT Kits have great reviews. If you don't want to spend that sort of money on the maxi kit then go for the normal kit he does. Deburr and lube and the 97 will be performing as it should. Mach 1.5
Has anyone fitted The TbT kit to a 97k and what was the result, worth doing?
My 97k is a 2008 model and is twanging like hell with a now quite vicious recoil. Got it all stripped down for a clean and regrease and I'm thinking of fitting the maxi pro kit but its 70 odd quid delivered.
Does it make the gun 70 odd quid better or would a good clean and regrease be enough?

I'd just go for the basic kit too, you'll lose the twang & it'll be a lot smoother.
You might need piston and or breech seals too if it's recoiling really badly.
Doesn't Nick do a bit of discount for members ?
.
Fit the basic kit and you will be amazed.
It will leave you wondering if you should of bought the maxi kit.
Repariere nicht, was nicht kaputtist.
If you don't want to spend £80 on improving the gun then you already have your answer, buy the cheaper kit. If I remember correctly, the Maxi Pro kit contains a matched spring and guides and I think it is well worth the investment. it can make a significant improvement. As Waddy says, check the breach and piston seals.
Full disclosure: Nick once bought me a bag of chips when I turned up unannounced in Cornwall one morning without any money.
Nick (Tinbum)and Captain Bongo (above post) fitted a TbT kit to my HW77 which is pretty much a HW97 too and it did make a difference as far as calming it down from a boing to a thud. It is worth noting though that you will still get a twangy noise from the safety catch spring which is very close to your ear on firing, that’s nowt to do with the TbT kit but you will hear it.
Disclosure: I was a Boinger Bash Virgin and Nick and Bongo forced me into a barn to insert said kit![]()

Ordered the maxi pro kit, lifes too short for an old git, will update after fitting.
No a 97 but just put a tbt kit in my mk1 85 along with b rit seals piston and breech seal. And I couldn't be happier. Has transformed the shooting experience with this gun and I'm over the moon. Worth every penny

Nice one. It's the tight fit of the guide and top hat to the spring that will give you the refinement you seek. The difference to how it is now should be marked. Good advice up above to renew the piston and breech seals whilst it's apart.
Any remaining "ping!" will generally be coming from the underlever retaining latch and spring assembly.
Enjoy.![]()

NEXT EVENT :- May 17/18, 2025.........BOING!!
I’ve heard if you have any questions while you’re fitting it, you should ring the freephone number on the box.
I’ve also heard forum members should do this before ordering too.
Apparently….
Better to admit you walked through the wrong door than spend your life in the wrong room
i fitted one to my hc it changed the gun for the better
you only get one life live it to the best of your ability
Fitted a kit in my Vulcan.. and now it won't stop killing rats!
My HW97k came with a TBT sticker on it, and it doesn't go boing or twang, so I assume it also has a TBT kit in it. Very nice rifle.
