    Webley Longbow Spring Guide Query

i'm currently repairing a Webley Longbow and it has a 'buffer' spring guide which presumably is meant to catch the spring and stop twanging.

However, I'm usually as a principle, trying to make sure the spring moves and rotates freely and the buffer guide seems to be trying to do the opposite.

Does it have a value or should I replace it with a Delrin guide?

    Steve.

Think I heard they have a bulge in the middle to grip the spring after it's fired to stop twang. Is it black plastic with patent mark on it?

    Guide

It should look like the one in the link below. They're not great and I'd recommend you have a properly fitting guide made.

Always on the look out for Brum / Venom - Webley Longbow / Tommie rifles and parts.

Yes, that's the one chaps and yes, I am minded to make a replacement then.

I can't see it being twangy and should allow the spring to work better.

Well I re-built the Longbow - polished piston, new seal & Delrin spring guide.

Its a good looking rifle but a little awkward to cock with that short barrel.

Performance was a bit disappointing though - around 9.5 ft.lb. with RWS Super Field and relatively harsh to shoot.

The Super Fields seemed quite tight in the breech but grouped OK at around 25m. I also had some Meisterkugeln with me for my pistol and tried a few of those. They loaded easier and also grouped well but about 2" lower and 2" to the right of the Super Fields which surprised me a little.

As it doesn't say Birmingham, I'm assuming this is a Turkish Longbow. I had to re-build the trigger to get it working but piston/spring wise, I couldn't see anything amiss.

Was expecting a little more oomph though as Chris Thrale says this model was designed down to be a 12 ft.lb. gun from the Tomahawk.

Turkish made Longbows are a little different to the Brum ones, the latter having far better build quality and LW barrels. Mach 1.5
