BSA Airsporter Stutzen info needed please

I'm lucky enough to have acquired one of these from a friend

Its a .177 carbine version, in rather lovely original condition.
So I have some questions for those who may know something about these rifles

Is it easy to date these? Mine is a tap loader, but has the raised maxi grip rail, and the williams type adjustable rear sight, and an adjustable foresight. From what I've read, these models were made up to the early 90's

What sort of muzzle energy should these make, in good mechanical order?

Has anyone successfully fitted scope mounts, that give reasonable cheek weld and eye relief, or are they best left with the fitted opens (which offer great cheek weld)?

    Thanks in advance

The one in the pic looks to be an RB2 with a rear safety
Mine is a tap loader, and the end block is higher, with the top of it meeting the maxi grip rail

Leupold rings or CCOP fit the 14mm rails and available in low mount. Same set up on my Challenger. I have 4 or 5 Stutzens.

BSA serial # date lists are available several places online. Ask for BSA air rifle serial # or you will get motorcycles instead.

You should be able to get over 11ftp with no troubles, just make sure all the internals are in good condition and if you can, fit a Welsh Willy spring kit and it will shoot nicely, my Airsporter S carbine which is an identical action to yours, is lovely to shoot, you may have problems finding the right pellet for it as they preferred the 5.6 Wasps, mine seems alright with Air Arms pellets.
Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

I look on the bay US and get 3000 results for .22 mounts. Many different brands. UK site only shows 256 and half aren't mounts. Must be somebody crimping your market.

I don't know anywhere else to get something to fit correctly. That's the issue with the BSA rails. BSA market rings too but they don't even make mounts for their own spring rifles. Even the recently released CLX. They first did this in 1959 on the Mk1 Meteor and then the Mk2 Airsporters. 15.5mm. Do they ever learn from experiences?
BTW Millet rings fit the Mk2 Airsporters and Mk1 Meteors if they can be had in UK?

BSA did one mount for the 14mm maxi grip
As they no longer use it, the mounts are getting rare too
It was a one piece mount. I'd rather have 2pc for a bit of wriggle room

Fit and healthy I guess, if not a bit buzzy

On my Airsporters I use a one piece mount and mill 20 mm off the clamping dovetails so it sits over the trigger block .

    Thumbs up

Only made for a few years and you did well getting the .177 as they're rarer than the .22 they were a transitional model between the tap loader and the RB2 models.
    Loving the countryside air
