New Hw100 owner, some Qs

Hi All,

Has been a long time since I was active on here, have been without a PCP for years but have just purchased a second hand (2024 year) full size .177 HW100 in a laminate stock. It's in great condition and shoots perfectly. I setup a quick 15m target in the back garden using an old Nikko scope I took off one of my old springers and it's impressed me with how consistent it is. It's certainly way better than I am, I've shot nothing but shotgun for years and I had to remember trigger control!

However I have a couple of Qs if you'll indulge me;

1. The saftey doesn't work, as in the gun fires irregardless of which way the saftey switch is set. The dealer I bought it from isn't open today so obviously I will ask them about it when they open tommorow but they are a fair drive from me so if there are any known issues that I can check myself that's preferable.

2. Has anyone fitted a sling swivel stud to the butt end? I'm not sure about drilling the stock as it's laminate but some sources say it's fine, but then some say it will just pull out.

3. Does anyone have a factory Picatinny rail adaptor (the one with the 3 countersunk holes in the top) and could they please confirm if its plastic or aluminium?

You can get a butt plate with a swivel stud also a front stock screw that doubles as a swivel mount. No need to drill.

I just had a quick Google and see what you mean, they're a much better idea than drilling. Might make one up myself out of some delrin sheet I've got lying around. The gun came with a stud in place of the front stock bolt so sorted for bipod and sling.

Ah I thought they looked like a molded part. I've ordered one of the 200mm eaglevision adaptors, made from aluminium and 'cinches' onto the rail so no need for grub screws bearing on the top of the dovetail like the other generic adaptors.

I have used the Weihrauch plastic picatinny rail and it works perfectly. It is a very snug fit on the dovetail rail. I say it is very well made.

The screws go into tapped holes in the blocks. They are countersink screws that sit flush with the surface. They will not mark the block when used properly.

As I was using my rifle with 2 scopes I didn't know how it would handle the continuous changing of scopes using QD mounts so I bought the Eaglevision 200mm rail. It is well engineered, fits perfectly and works perfectly.

Thanks for the replys, the eaglevision adaptor arrived and was fitted yesterday, very impressed with it. I got the gun clamped level to fit a scope and the rail is perfectly true to the dovetail when fitted.

However when trying to mount the scope I've bought both the pic and dovetail mounts supplied with it are so bad I can't mount the scope without huge amounts of cant and the dovetail mounts are so bad the scope won't even sit in them without rocking all over the place! I darent tighten the caps down as it will crimp the tube it's so bad!

Time to order some BKLs! I'm loving th flat top on the HW100, don't have to worry about clearing magazines etc, can fit a 44mm obj scope in low mounts!

Not sure why you wanted to convert to Pic rail, BKL are great mounts but only come in dovetail.

I just use low sportsmatch mounts. No problems so far.

I switch scopes a lot and due to a very full cabinet I have to remove the scope to get the gun in there, that's the main reason for wanting pic rail.

I zeroed with the pic mounts earlier just to get used to the scope and impact was 3 inches low and left, at 10m, which is going to make shooting at anything other than the zero range a nightmare.

Tempted to ring optics warehouse and see if they think I'm being unreasonable!

The 'free' mounts you get from Optics Warehouse are pony...... bin them!

I've got the standard HW picatinny rail on my HW100BP and switch between two scopes on it for day and night with no issue, it is very well made

I have some 1 inch UTG QR Pic rings that came with the scope and actually work pretty well, holding zero between swaps.

BKL are the dog's for dovetail of course, but for Pic rail the steel Warne Maxima QR rings are up there.

I ran BKL on my air ranger for years and they were fantastic, stupidly I sold them with the gun and kept a box of rubbish cheap mounts instead!

The cheapy pic mounts do hold zero between changes, I tried it earlier, it's just the fact they're so far off center which makes it useless for hunting really.

Yes I am aware of this, however the issue is the gun fires with the saftey in either position when cocked. Dealer has agreed to have a look for me, when I get chance to run it in for them.
