Great pellets dropped many a rat, crow, pigeon ,rabbit 40 + yards with them & quiet funny the tin had a sticker on them years ago not recomended for over 25 yds![]()
I’m going through some of the guns that I will be taking to the spring Boinger Bash.
I was shooting my Air Arms Bora to see what pellet suits the gun best, I tried H&N ftt, jsb Exact, jsb rs , RWS super dome, and RWS Hobby. The first 3 in the list didn’t do too well ( probably down to my poor technique) and I was a bit surprised to be honest. I then tried the super domes (much better) and finally the Hobby’s which performed the best and felt nicer re the shot cycle. The zero distance was 25 yards .
I’ve had this on a few occasions with the Hobby’s coming to the rescue..
Long live the Hobby.

When I had my first FWB 124 I asked Manchester Air Guns what pellet they would advise me use and they said for up to around 30yds Hobbys would be a good bet and at 70p for 500 they were cheaper than the usual obvious choices so I bought an orange plastic tub of them and they were so good I never tried anything else in it.![]()
Hobby pellets have got me out of a muddle several times,I think they are slightly larger in diameter than most.
very good pellets
you only get one life live it to the best of your ability
Their posh brother was a great pellet also back in the 80s. RWS Diablo. Mach 1.5
'No good past thirty yards', used to be the comment.
Bad Daz and I flattened some tiny silhouettes out at 75 yards with some vintage Hobbys a few years back at the bash.
Nice slugs.
Put on heading 270, assume attack formation
I found .22 hobbies to be the best out of my old tracker I think tap loaders must like them because of there thick wide skirt.
I remember it well, Craigy.Superb performances from yourself, Daz and the Hobbys.
And Paul then also gave me a ton of those older Hobbys too; thanks, Paul.
I've used and been a fan of the Hobby ever since being a young teen (I used to go to Sheffield on the train to get them) and still use them often these days. And I remember the old "Squirrel brand" green tin posher and slightly heavier Diablo, Paul.![]()

My test results have been the exact same with both my .22 cal Khamsin and my .177 Webley MK3. I found it interesting because both are tap loaders. I wrongly assumed that round nosed pellets would be more accurate because they should make that jump from the tap to the barrel easier as it would self align. I tried all kinds of good quality round nose pellets and all performed poorly and that included both light and heavy versions. I was about to give up but decided to try some of the super light Hobbies and what a difference. I got the same good results on both tap loaders even with both being different calibers. I then switched over and gave the somewhat similar RWS Meisterkugelns a try and they worked every bit as good. Haven't decided which one is better but both are worth a look. Don't know why the short light domed Falcons/JSB 7.33's aren't as good but they aren't. Leaves me wondering if it's what seems to be a slightly larger skirt on those RWS pellets. All I know is those two are without a doubt the pellet of choice in both of my tap loaders. I've even experimented with trying to flare the skirt a bit more and it appears it might help but without a proper tool to do it right the results can be inconsistent. I also had better than average results with the Superdomes same as Les so maybe it does have something to do with RWS pellet sizing.
I only use Hobby's in my Crosman 600, never had a jam yet.
