    Thumbs down BSA volumetric mod

What a piece of poo ....tried a volumetric mod (I wouldn't call it a silencer) on my S10 carbine and what a piece of poo(yes I typed it again) it made fitting it pointless so I went back to a 1/2" unf barrel adapter and a decimeater mod .....looks as though the carbine and the .177 full length ones are having to be screwcut...

Not the best, not quite the worst. Doesn't win a prize for anything.
Rabbit Stew, no artificial additives except lead.

Not that bad on the lightning i find. Not so good on the Superten but that said other factors come into play with both spring & pcp

Can you get inside it to swap out the baffles for something more effective ?

Dampening springer muzzle blast does not require much of a moderator, almost any empty volume with a front baffle does a decent job.
    Too many airguns!

Bought a logun ccfc mod from Chambers works much better I swapped the volumetric mod on my first s10 out for an early logun and that worked a treat .....this one's carbon fibre and slightly longer (quieter too)

The BSA Volumetric silencer was first used on a springer with a very short barrel and its job was to provide extra leverage when cocking on, I think, the Lightning. It pushed over the muzzle some 3 or 4 inches so was very strong but still had enough internal volume to use on a springer as an adequate "silencer". When the S10 carbine was first introduced the Volumetric silencer was fitted to all because the short !0" barrel ended half way along the buddy bottle and the factory were worried that accidents may occur as a result. The decision to use the volumetric was made because it was already in production not on it's silencing properties. It worked to a certain extent on the rifle version of the S10 which used an 18.5" barrel and was much quieter as a result. Those making such decisions were not shooters.

Yes. Wise move. The Logan was made as a silencer not a cocking aid. It may be slightly longer but its much quieter.

If its the same volumetric silencer used on the old Brum Lightning then they put loctite on the endcap threads and needs heat to remove it.

The design was a bit poor on mine, with the center tube having very few holes it to allow air to enter the outer space. The spring loaded washer cups are made from plastic and block some of the holes in the inner tube. I attempted to improve it by drilling more holes in the inner tube, replacing the plastic cups with steel washers that have smaller diameter inner holes and adding some air filter to the outer cavity. I'd need two guns side by side to compare, but I'm sure it will have made some improvement.
