they think it looks pretty ?
tbh, it's grown on me - I used to hate it, now I'm indifferent... but I do prefer the older style stocks. But I'm an old bastard who never buys a new gun, so probably not their target market![]()
Does anybody know why Air arms went with fish related chequering on a gun?,
It seems a strange choice over traditional methods and presumably there must have been a reason but blowed if i can think of one for the life of me.

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. But not lathes. I have too many lathes. Thanks, JB.
As shedtuner says, probably to be different to the standard, boring type checkering. I quite like it too on mine.
I have a TX Mk3. I would have much preferred more traditional checkering or stippling. But, to be fair, you kind of accept it and it becomes of less importance when you own and use it. Probably more of a deal-breaker at the pondering stage, prior to purchase?

I wondered why they chose scales rather than something traditional or more shooting related,
I like mine on my hc but as above, would prefer tratitional hand cut chequering if the truth be told. I really dont like what weihrauch are doing with the logo on some of their stocks.
Same here, hated it at first but it has grown on me. However, I am still thinking on replacing my TX and Pro-Sport with a custom stock eventually.
Fishscale chequering is an Austrian-born thing. It was used to show the capabilities of the stocker on fine sporting rifles and shotguns and provides a more pronounced ( one way ) grip when wearing gloves.
As AA is a UK gunmaker and the fish scale is now laser cut on, it makes even less sense to have it on their stocks.
80 grit improves it no end in just a few minutes...![]()

I like the fishscale checkering.
It's different.
Makes it easily recognisable as an Air Arms. Perhaps that's why they went with it.
I wonder what samples they had to choose from?
Repariere nicht, was nicht kaputtist.
Simply because its more practical with better grip and it looks more attractive to new buyers, the old forend checkering is not even a classic shape, I know that we all have different tastes but my guess is that most new buyers would go for the newer fishscale shape stock, I think that AA know what they are doing

Oooooh....I've just remembered. I think it was Nick, oldskoolz, who once said that the "hump" on the TX action where the barrel joins the cylinder reminded him of a dolphin, so maybe it's dolphin scales?![]()

Due to working in the trade, I'm privy to such info and have seen the other proposal.
It was a stippled portrait of Susan Boyle's face on each side of the pistol grip - and a centrefold type image of her naked body on the forend panels, again, picked out in tasteful stippling.
I'm told it was a very close run race...
