Father's Day HW35

Here you go, Tony. I got up early and made a start:
I mounted the smaller Williams to the 77. The height is perfect and has lots of adjustment left at my zero of 25 yards.



The foresight bead on this rifle just about covers the 50mm shoot'nsee discs at 30 yards, leaving a slight edge visible to line up on, so that's what I shot the groups at.





It handles a lot better than the factory HW unit I was using on this and looks to be pretty much as precise in use as the larger model - not that this .22 version will be used for much long range shooting.
I also got a few other 77's assembled before rain stopped play.



Still have a few more to assemble and then I have to dig out the optics and mounts and zero them all - but it's too warm for any of that, so for now I'm about to have a few quiet beers with the dog.

That's exactly the look I wanted, mate. The sight itself is tiny but very precise in use. Definitely recommended. If I build another, I'll go for the same unit.
You'll have to have a straightener with Tony when I come to sell this - although it'll be a while.

My reply yesterday had to be short as I was nearing the end of my break at work. That sight is 100% the sort of thing I'd dream up in a perfect world....compact and very rugged. And I prefer the fact that it isn't click adjustable, so once zeroed it isn't getting twiddled off zero by mistake. And to mount it on possibly the most beautiful rifle in existence is almost sensory overload!

Shooting performance wise, those groups confirm what many have known / suspected all along.....no surprise when I think back to the shooting performances I witnessed many years ago at the 25 yards indoor rimfire ranges and re-iterated on those videos I searched out a few weeks ago on peep sights. They really can be so effective. And, for me, with the iffy eyesight, a total salvation, meaning I'll be able to use open sights effectively once again. As and when budget allows, my open sighted guns will be converted to peep rears and I can't wait to try and proceed with my ideas about making up some basic ones. Those groups of yours are amazing; very well done, that man.

Hope the beers went down well and that Mick didn't manage to nick too many from you.

The Williams on the 77 is indeed a nice little unit. Quicker in use than the one I fitted to the 35 but fiddly to set up with those tiny set screws ( I had to use my chequering magnifier to set it up and lock it off, my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be ) - but as you say, it can't be accidentally twiddled and should be a set up and forget job. Hopefully. One modification I might make is to fit a longer retaining screw which could then double up as an arrestor stud in the HW recess - but I'm happy just to have it set up for now.
Beers went down very well - I woke up at 1am on the sofa with a Jaws documentary playing itself on loop...
Up early again this morning as I'm working on a mate's ProSport stock. Sarah and the kids are due back around midday but she's then taking Eleanor to a Taylor Swift tribute gig, so Jake and I have some dad and lad time ( I dodged a right bullet there )
And I've just read the Birmingham Antique Arms market is on....

Hello mate, no they don't - I bought this a good while back from someone who'd made it and put it away. Although looking at the HW rear sight unit, it would be very straightforward to drill a suitably sized hole in a piece of steel and replace the aperture.
Having a lovely afternoon with my lad thanks pal - we went to the Arms Fair, bought junk food and sweets from the shop and I'm just doing a barbi whilst he watches some superhero type film ( I couldn't convince him to watch a documentary about Jaws that I started last night ).
