a little warning to the shed tuners using loctite in this warm weather....

...it goes off quick.. really stupidly quick ! Don't ask, but the blowtorch had to come out.. lucky I went with the 243 rather than the 680 I briefly contemplated.

Will wait till it cools down, or just put the parts in the fridge tomorrow after I cleaned them up

Yep. Suppose it could be an advantage or disadvantage, depending on what you're doing or whether position is correct the first time?

...in the true spirit of everything happens for a reason...

I cleaned the barrel and breech sleeve peices up this morning, and when trial fitting, noticed that the internal step clearance I had left to form the o-ring groove was a half-mill too wide. That could easily have allowed the o-ring to not seal properly, or to move around, so I made the adjustment. Had to measure it with a piece of bent wire, as almost impossible to see properly. So it would have had to come apart anyways, but much better now, before I do the external machining operations.

With more normal temperatures, it went back together (with the correct o-ring clearnace) perfectly this morning. My compatto should have a new diana barrel by the weekend !

Sounds like the Weather Gods were on your side, JB.

This re-barrelling project should yield great results.

I have never had any problems with Loctite 243 or 242 going off before the parts were fully assembled. It is the exclusion of air that causes it to set.

It shouldn't need a blow torch as the temperature to soften 243 is 250°C but once together I have never had any problems with parts not coming apart.

I always keep loctite and super glue in the fridge. A habit from when working in the labs.

Unfortunately my 250 degree industrial hairdryer was unavailable, so I used the blowtorch I had to hand
