The Caberg flip up I've got looked OK online but the shell is huge & it lifts up at speed. I like the built in sun visor, very handy with low sun.

Never had problems with my Caberg flipping up at speed - & the Blackbird & ZX-9R are not slow, is it locked down properly? Took a while to wear in...found the sun visor a PIA. Intrudes on my vision even withdrawn at the top of the lid.

If I'm reading it right, Bru, I think the entire helmet is lifting? Usually one of the signs that a lid's too big.

Sometimes if a customer is "self-serving", they'd happily choose one that is two sizes too large, proclaiming how comfortable it is! We've even had blokes buy ones for girlfriends saying, "I'll try it. If it fits me, it'll be okay for her!".....and proceed in buying a potentially poorly fitting £50 el budget special!

I got an Arai RX7 V , it's actually to replace a previous Arai RX7 that had got to the end of its life.
I wanted to try one on incase the size/shape/fit had changed from older models. I put the new one on and it felt like home. The Arai helmets aren't cheap but they have a proven record, and I always think that if you ever crashed you'd wished you hadn't skimped on safety.

Just looked them up, very nice indeed but above my budget. Or maybe I should sell a rifle or two

The whole helmet lifts & strangles me with the chin strap, it doesn't feel big or loose either ! I like the sun visor but it doesn't come far enough down in mine.

Paul, on Friday I was in Clothing as opposed to Helmets, so one of my colleagues looked after Terry.

But I sometimes work in Helmets and you wouldn't believe some of the stuff we hear and get told up there. Some people are a danger to themselves when it comes to helmet fit and suitability.

Honestly, honestly, honestly......visit our shop, or any other shop with a good selection of helmets, to inspect them, try on for size and be properly fitted up. You would not believe some of the ill-fitting garbage that some people are happy to trust their noggin in. DO NOT BLINDLY BUY ONE ON-LINE WITHIOUT TRYING ON PRIOR.

There are many good helmets available, from a wide range of manufacturers, and many are very, very good. If budget allows, and as long as the fit is absolutely correct for you, I'd choose from Arai, Shoei, AGV, HJC, Shark and Scorpion. But some of the less pricey ones will also be fine, but do visit a shop and try them.

P.S....sounds like yours is too large for you.

P.P.S....There are plenty of other worthy helmets, too. Nolans (+ the X-Lite range) amongst others too.

I am no way buying any motorcycle gear online again, not even trousers. I bought some Bullit jeans; everyone said buy your normal size, so I did & they are way too tight.

The Caberg helmet feels quite tight but it pulls up & strangles me at higher speeds. I got a flip up for petrol stations & the escape from the claustrophobic feeling of a full face, but I'll probably go back to a full face next time, depending on the below.

My new criteria are good sun visor (must go fully up & down & be operable while riding), good fit, chin strap that isn't on my throat, not a big shell & it has to be white . White seems to be the most visible, yet doesn't have the uncool thing of hi-viz .

As you say, I think the little Pug's time is up and, hopefully, the boss will replace with something much better. If it does come back, finish it off for good!

I'll take a couple of .177 guns & an empty gun slip with me


The boss was going to PA the little Hyundai i20 spare spare car, (it really is tiny) for a Vauxhall moka for one of the drivers as he's a really big guy but I think he might revise plans now. I took the i20 up to Pickering in the afternoon after the pug crapped out, quite scary on country lanes, it's very light (3 cyl petrol) & bounces all over unlike the heavier pug diesels .

I won't be driving for a couple of weeks so at least I don't have to worry about it, no idea how the big guy is going to manage in the i20, his 208 is also kaput (botched engine rebuild).

When you're ready and you have the time, come and visit our shop. It's huge and you'll have a massive choice of different styles, makes and sizes....helmets and all the other gear too. We always have sales / reductions on and also price match genuine UK suppliers / like-for-like product.

I got the '35 built up yesterday evening. Cocking and firing strokes feel very nice. As it was dark I couldn't run it over the chrono - I'll do that later this morning before heading off to Doncaster. However, I did do an indoor "catalogue chrono" test and the .22 Hobbys buried themselves nicely into the catalogue whereas they had merely dented it previously, so it's evident there's a healthy jump in output.

And WOW again, this is perfect.....

Ran it over the F1 a short time ago. Used the Hobby and Superdome.

Hobby averaged out at 661fps for 11.5ft.lbs.

Superdome 600fps for 11.6ft.lbs.

Consistency was +/- 5fps and this thing still has to settle, having only fired about 12 shots maximum!

The firing cycle is fantastic. Quick but not harsh at all.

Vindicating what Mick said earlier - getting the leaky breech fix done has got to be THE go-to fix for these older 35s. Done expertly, as Nick has done for me, coupled to his superb experience with the use of 'O' rings has resulted in a most special feeling and performing rifle.

Credit also to Monsieur Le Tinny Bum - the spring I've used is one of his. Mated to his top hat and new style guide. Spring shortened by about an inch. The end of the spring guide protrudes only 4 or 5mm from the cylinder, so easy to fit by hand.

Shortened spring and the already shorter stroke of the earlier 35 reduced further by the 'O' ring head really emphasises the efficiency gains coming from the breech fix and Nick's attention to seal fit.

The plan worked like it was running on rails


HW 100 T now sat in my gun room It's from my local range, someone had traded it in, it's 2018 and it looks like it's been looked after, no dints or scrapes

Tried the Wulf scope on it, the scope optically is everything I could want but it wont zero on the 100 same as it wouldn't on the 97. I thought it was the original mounts so I swapped them for a pair of Sportsmatch ones & no difference. At maximum adjustment it's shooting 3 inches too low at 20 yards.

I put the scope off the 35 on the 100 instead & that zeroed, but the 10x mag seemed crap after 24x . It's got the canted mount on I realised after it zeroed I've other scopes that I can try & it should be easier if it's not a 48mph head wind with rain like it was on Sunday. Incredibly I wasn't the only one at the range either.


I want to chrono it asap to check it's working OK, it's certainly accurate & nice to use . Someone else rang up to buy it shortly after I had put a deposit on it, so good job I didn't wait until the weekend as it was a very good price.

Visiting your shop sounds like a good idea if I can ride. I had to stop because of shoulder & neck problems that were affecting my balance, that seems to have faded away so hopefully I can get the SV back on the road. I miss the sound of it as much as anything, it's very addictive

That's a result on the 100. It sounds to be good. Obviously, getting it fully checked out will give that extra reassurance, but I bet all is hunky dory with it. At least with these, there is so much knowledge of them, accessories and industry experts who can work wonders with servicing etc., giving that feel good factor and confidence going for years. Hope you get your scope selection and setting up nailed down to maximise its bucket slaying potential. And well done for "getting in there" before other interested parties.

Had a nice time at the Doncaster Range again today. I didn't take a rifle. I just wanted my friend to get acquainted with his '85 and help with some shooting tips, trying different pellets etc. He had a lovely time and didn't stop grinning. We also chrono checked it there and it was doing a nice and healthy 11.5ft.lbs. The range's LMBR chrono is excellent. It's what I'd fancy next time around. Nice, big area to shoot through, further protected by a really thick Perspex screen with a hole drilled through to point the barrel through. Very safe and foolproof.....although someone had missed the ample-sized hole in the past and hit the Perspex!

I hope your health issues affecting bike riding are behind you now and that you can enjoy the SV and it's lovely V-Twin sounds and character again soon. Always happy to help with any clothing related queries, my friend.
