I forgot you had the 97 too (I sorta remembered you had another HW, but couldn't quite remember which one). So, yes, stick that one in and see what happens.

I only had a few shots with the 35 and you'll have a far better idea of how many times the issue has reared its head. On those occasions where it cocked, it appeared to do so to me smoothly and without hindrance or obstruction, so fingers crossed that it's just the trigger issue. And quickly answered if you try it with the 97's trigger. Hope it works as that will be problem nice and easily diagnosed and a cheap fix. As you're happy with the rifle's shooting manners, personally I wouldn't bother stripping it to investigate piston etc if the trigger does the trick.

Had some time in the gun room, tried cocking the 35 action with the trigger out, the latch rod clearly goes back far enough, & the cocking arm is no where near the end of the slot in the stock judging by how close it gets to the trigger guard bolt hole.

Double checked the 97 on the chrono & yep 15.95 joules, so I whipped the trigger out of that & popped it into the 35, put the stock on & it cocks perfectly with a bit of play left, ie it can push the piston back a tad further than needed to engage the latch.

So it defo is the worn sears & tired springs in the 35 rekord, they will hopefully arrive tomorrow. Then maybe I can get a scope in that canted mount, get it to the range & shoot it !

I've taken a preload washer out of the 97 but not swapped the trigger back yet. The Welsh Willy spring in the 97 looks puny compared to the monster in the 35, which may be why it's so sweet to shoot.

Looks like I still need a decent "period" 1 inch tube scope short enough for a break barrel rifle, for either the 35 or the Sirocco.
